Holy Smokes, Time to Catch Up!

Oh boy. It’s been months since my last post. This was by no means my intention, but after the huge rush to get ready for and execute my vision at Fall Quilt Market, I came home and thought, “Oh, I’ll just wind down for a bit and then post about it.”

Um, and then the elections happened and I was totally derailed from focusing on work. The reality of the following days in early November were hard to process.

Then in late November, I felt like the only way to lift myself out of the doom and gloom I felt with the election results was to take matters into my own hands.

I decided to host an auction on Instagram of 12 portraits I’d created over the last year. I chose a variety of ladies, posted them for one week, with an opening bid of $50 for each. All proceeds outside of actual shipping costs would go to The Sierra Club, the ACLU and Planned Parenthood.

Here are some of the 12 lucky ladies who helped support my SK Benefit Auction:

It was actually really hard to decide which ones to part with and there was a part of me that wanted to keep them all. I felt though, that sometimes there are things bigger than me or my personal choices that are much more important. Things important to all of humanity and the planet. So I kept that in mind and hoped for a good showing by week’s end.

And you know what?

Here’s what we raised:

I was so incredibly pleased by the outpouring of support and reading the enthusiastic and excited emails from the winning bidders was just icing on the SK Benefit Auction cake. It was the most therapeutic outcome I could have hoped for!
