BurdaStyle Book Launch Party!

Last night I had the great honor of attending the BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook launch party here in Soho. My whole family came along and we all had a blast.

I was thrilled to meet up again with Stephen Fraser of Spoonflower and get to meet some awesome folks from Simplicity, Oliver + S, BurdaStyle and then some. It was close to overwhelming, but having Mister Baby Pants strapped to me and working the crowd in all his 6-month glory, helped level everything into a really fun social event. Hey, I’m a parent. It’s nice to get out and talk to other adults (and parents<–bonus!) sometimes.

With Stephen and my mini associates, one of whom decided to make Daddy’s picture-taking a wee bit more challenging by…textbook toddler…not standing still.

Mingling with Mister Baby Pants while The Bub checked out his new copy of the subway map. We all have our priorities.

There was the Singer Make + Take sewing lounge by candlelight, glitter tattoos, Spoonflower fabrics, copies of the handbook to peruse (I’m waiting for a little downtime today to check out my fresh new copy at home!), a crazy book cake and sample clothing pieces from the handbook itself.

BurdaStyle founder Nora Abousteit and creative director Alison Dahl Kelly gave a formal hello to everyone along with shout outs to all the book contributors and craft personalities in attendance. Very fun!

If you’re not familiar with BurdaStyle, they’re the largest DIY fashion and sewing community (like 690,00 members…HUGE) and have great offerings for projects of all sorts on their website, and now in this great book.

I was so busy talking to some really lovely people, that I pretty much forgot to eat or drink anything (as per usual). As the evening progressed, my tired mom-self was ready to pass out from a sweet cocktail of fatigue and adrenalin. But not before partaking in the BurdaStyle photo booth. Wrong move, you say?

HAHAHAHA! WHAT SAY YOU NOW? I see your embarrassing high school year book photo and raise you one impromptu group picture with random prop action. You’re welcome.

Pictured above: Spoonflower’s Stephen, fellow Timeless Treasures designer Hoodie and amazing quilter dude, Luke Haynes. Seriously. Check out his work. I LOVE his clothing quilt especially. Great stuff. Great people. Potentially questionable photos (except for Mister Baby Pants, who nailed the vogue pose), and great swag bag to boot.

Perfect night and great company; thanks to Stephen and everyone at BurdaStyle for having me!
