Objects of Inspiration

Do you ever find yourself going through your daily routine and next thing you’ve stumbling across a little object in your possession that simply fills you with random happiness?

I was in the kitchen the other day and needed to open up a bottle and mindlessly went to the cutlery drawer and pulled out one of three openers we have. Why we have three, I have no idea.

I reached in for my favorite one.The one that always makes me smile each time I rediscover it during such practical and mundane moments.

Here he is!

I just love everything about this this small hunk of metal. Its form, function, design, quality. Yes, the quality! Its the perfect weight and size for my hand. It’s just a completely great piece of design to me.

I got him about 15 years ago at a flea market in Nice, France, while I was on assignment for a culinary magazine.

I’m not sure how old he is, but clearly pre-Berlin Wall fall era, as he’s marked “Made in W. Germany.” My favorite part is the surprise second method to open bottles tucked away under in his belly. Now that’s great German design.

I love little random things around me that inspire creativity. Do you have objects like this that inspire you too?
